2010 Planning School | The Gold Medal Edition

In celebration of Vancouver's involvement in the 2010 Winter Olympics, our theme for this year's Planning School is "The Gold Medal Edition". This will once again be a highly technical event featuring professionals from across the country. In honour of the Olympic theme, we are pleased to announce that we will have an athlete as one of our feature speakers. This event entails two full days of informative, engaging and motivating presentations, all focused around a single, in-depth case study developed to feature a wide variety of the issues you encounter on a daily basis. This will be a great educational event that will provide valuable networking opportunities for financial advisors.

Hot Breakfast & Lunch will be provided on both days.

This year's Planning School takes place from October 26th - 27th, once again at Simon Fraser University's spectacular Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Please reserve your seats early as there are only 160 seats available on a first come first serve basis.

In 2001, he was a contributor to the book “Your Clients for Life—the definitive guide to Financial Life Planning” along with U.S. authors Mitch Anthony and Carol Anderson. Since that book was written, Barry has interviewed hundreds of advisors in both Canada and the United States and created a common sense approach to linking a client’s life planning to his or her financial plan. His main area of specialty is in teaching advisors how to implement a wealth management discovery process that will uncover a client’s true emotional concerns. Barry is on the advisory board for The Canadian Securities Institute Wealth Management Designation Program and currently works with firms in Canada and the U.S. to help them implement a true wealth management strategy for their advisors.

Bruce Watson is a partner in the Financial Investigations Group. He has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and is a Canadian CA and Chartered Business Valuator. Bruce served as a partner in a national accounting firm from 1981 to 1993, providing assurance and business advisory services to a wide range of clients. He subsequently served as an officer and director of certain public (TSX and NASDAQ) and private companies, working in the United States until returning to Vancouver in 2004. Bruce's practice is focused mainly on business valuations, litigation support (including shareholder disputes, quantification of economic losses, and issues related to accounting principles or auditing standards), and financial modeling services related to public-private partnerships ("P3's").

Later, he set up his own financial planning practice, which he successfully transitioned to Alain Quennec at Rogers Group Financial three years ago. In 1998 Diane became a founding Investment Manager at Vancity Capital, initially capitalized with $25 million. During her 15 year tenure in the banking and merchant banking, Diane has financed in excess of 400 BC-based businesses, with her last 10 years concentrated on subordinated debt financing for growth, acquisitions, and management buyouts. Diane joined Wolrige Mahon Corporate Finance in 2006 to work as an advisor to business owners in their M&A activities, and to assist them with financing as they grow their businesses organically and through acquisitions.

Ian Macnaughton, is an executive coach, organizational consultant, and psycho-therapist in private practice. He has an extensive business background and has taught at Langara College, B.C.I.T., S.F.U. and U.B.C. His training includes Somatic Experiencing®, E.M.D.R., T.F.T., Gestalt Therapy from the Gestalt Training Center, the San Diego Training Centre and other approaches for assisting individuals, families and organizations.
